Today on this 2005 Jeep Liberty, we are going to install part number 13044 from Curt. The first step involved is to go ahead and remove the recovery hook right here. This part will actually come off and stay off because there is no room for this and the hitch. Alright, to remove the hook there are three bolts that we need to take off from the frame. OK, now we will go ahead and show you where the attaching points are on the vehicle. There is going to be this weld nut, this one and this one, that was covered up by the hook. Now, the ones that have been exposed, you probably want to clean them out a little bit. So we are going to use some lubricant and just go ahead and spray it down. Then we will go ahead and thread one of the hitch bolts into it. You want to go in a few threads and back it off and then go a few more until you can run it all of the way through to the other side. Our driver side of the vehicle is finished now. Let us go over to the passenger side and clean out the threads over there. 0:55
OK, we are just about ready to install the hitch. We will just point out one thing really fast. With the exhaust on the passenger side of the vehicle, we just took a strap and pulled it over to the side. The hole going towards the front of the vehicle is right above the exhaust, so you can pull it over a little bit to get some clearance to tighten the bolt down. If you do not get enough that way, you can always remove the rubber hanger from the exhaust and then pull it out of your way. OK, with our bolt holes cleaned out, let us go ahead and install the hitch. You want an extra set of hands to help do this. Basically, the easiest way is to get it lined up, get a bolt started and then go ahead and install the rest of the hardware. OK, you want to leave these all loose until you get all of the hardware started. The driver side is done. Let us go over to the passenger side and repeat the same process. OK, now that we have all of the hardware started, let us go ahead and take a second to center the hitch. You have a little bit of play in it. Then we will go ahead and snug down the bolts and then we will torque them down as specified in the instructions. 1:51
We have our vehicle off the lift. We will go ahead and give you a couple of measurements on here to help you in ing items such as a ball mount, bicycle rack or cargo carrier. On this particular vehicle, from the top of the opening down to the ground is 17-1/2 inches. And from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer edge of the tire we are looking at 15 inches. Alright, with that that will finish our install of part number 13044 from Curt on our 2005 Jeep Liberty.
