Troubleshooting Installation of Rack'Em Double Barrel Utility Trailer Tailgate Lift Assist RA27C

Bought this lift assist for my trailer, and installed it according to the video and instruction leaflet. It all looks OK, but still too heavy to lower, and especially to raise up? Also, there doesnt seem to be any indication of spring action....

Is the Lock Mechanism on the Lock-em Magnum Wheel Lock # RA-25 Replaceable or Permanent

Does this use a standard cam lock with removable cam? Is it possible to see the inside section where the lock is attached please? That all brass tubular joke would only stop the laziest of thieves. They manufactures go through all this trouble...
