The Thule Roof Cargo Carrier # TH859XT that you referenced is designed to fit crossbars that are spaced apart between 20 inches and 37 inches. If you have factory crossbars on your 2001 Jeep Cherokee and they are spaced in that range of spread, then this basket would work well.
If you have a wider crossbar spread the Yakima MegaWarrior Extra Large Roof Rack Cargo Basket # Y07080-82 can fit spreads of up to 60 inches.
