Question:

I have recently purchased a 1996 Mallard by Fleetwood 18 D. EW 3100 lbs, Tongue weight is between 6-800 lbs according to the hitch. I will pull with a 2003 Dodge Dakota 4.7 V8, HD tow package, Quad Cab 4WD or a 2011 Dodge Durango 3.7 V6, tow package IV,inch AWD. I need a weight distribution hitch/anti-sway that will work with either. I must be able to back up the trailer down a 500 ft. driveway 14 ft. wide. I like this model or the Curts, but am fearful that there will be issues with propane tank location.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow, this figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.

Once you know your tongue weight we can make the best possible recommendation. But most likely it's pretty low and would between 350-500 lbs. So a system like the part # RP66082 would be ideal since it has a range of 200-600 lbs of tongue weight. This system allows backing up as long as you don't get too tight with the maneuvers. Also, this system has the only sway control system that works to prevent sway before it starts.

Since you most likely will have fit issues with the chain hangers due to your propane tanks your best option would be to get the part # RP58305. These will bolt to the side of your trailer frame and which would prevent your propane tanks from interfering.
