Solutions for Leveling a Fifth Wheel Trailer When the Hitch is Adjusted as Tall as It will go

Updated 08/27/2014 | Published 08/26/2014

Question:

Can you make a replacement head support for my Reese 15k Pro series sliding 5th wheel hitch. In stead of 4 holes, extend the mounting flanges for 6 holes. I need just a little more clearance. If so, how much would it cost. Thanks

The only real solution I can provide for you would be to have the Reese Hitch adjusted to the highest possible position and then raise your pin box up into your trailer frame so that your trailer will sit level.

Your hitch has a height range of 14-1/2 inches to 18 inches. That's about as tall as you are going to get, so your best option would be to raise the pin box.

Another option you have would be to lift the trailer. You can do this by moving the axles from being above the leaf springs to below the leaf springs.

The diameter of your trailer axle will determine the size of the parts that you will need to order. If your axle is 3 inches diameter, the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit, # K71-385-00, would be a great choice and if your axle is 2-3/8 inch diameter you could use the Over-Under Kit, # K71-384-00. These kits can be installed without welding but the manufacturer strongly recommends having the new spring seat tacked in place on the other side of the trailer axle.
