Is There A Caster Wheel That Works With The Lippert Electric Trailer Jack

Updated 10/29/2026 | Published 10/27/2026

Question:

I have to use a wheel on my tongue jack. Can I install a 2inch wheel instead of using footplate?

Hey Joan, thanks for reaching out. Yes, it is possible to replace the foot plate on your Lippert Electric Trailer Jack # LC285318 with a caster wheel. For that I recommend the following:

- Ram Removable, 6" Poly Caster Assembly for 2" Jack Tube - 1,200 lbs # JC-101

The main thing to keep in mind here is the caster wheel is rated for only 1,200 lbs, so that will become the new weight limit for your jack. You won't be able to use it up to its full 3,500 lb tongue weight capacity.

What camper are you using it on?

The other item to remember is less clearance, than the flat foot. You will find you probably need to remove the wheel completely when hooked to your towing vehicle. Flat ground you would be OK, but a humped driveway or speed bump could strike the wheel.

I bought this caster before I bought my first travel trailer because such an item was on many lists of "must have" accessories. I have nothing against this particular make and model of caster--it seems well made. But my advice is, think about WHY you need it and WHEN you would use it. I usually store my trailer in a gravel lot; it wouldn't work there. I certainly don't need a caster on my trailer when I'm living in it. Even the repair shops I've taken the trailer to didn't want it on the trailer. So I've used it exactly once in four years, and would offer it to someone else if they needed it.

This works great on concrete, but I found that on dirt it wants to turn sideways. I am glad i bought it though.

@Don Yea dirt or loose gravel can sometimes cause problems for those jack wheels. Thanks for sharing your experience!

The quality of the item is as eTrailer products, excellent. Further, the clevis pin attachment is standard, so switching from pad to caster is easy and do-able in a few minutes. Several of the previous reviewers offer important comments: important is what you intend to do with a caster vs. a pad. Note that depending on your tongue weight, moving a trailer with a single caster up front may be difficult, especially on a soft surface. For example, I wanted to be able to turn our travel trailer around in an RV site within its length. Our trailer (Scamp 13) is small and the tongue weight is ~200 pounds, so my bride and I can hump it around with modest effort. But if it were like most RVs, heavier, a single caster would not work on anything less than a paved site. If that sounds like your situation, you would do well to consider a dual (two) caster assembly.

@JimS Thanks for the great feedback, Jim! I'm glad you're happy with the quality and how easy it is to switch between the pad and caster. I really appreciate you sharing your experience and those helpful tips for others looking to move their trailers around!
