What Brake Controller Fits the OEM Plug in My 2009 Dodge Ram 1500?

Updated 10/27/2026 | Published 10/25/2026

Question:

I just ordered the Redarc RED52VR from you. I have a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 with the blue socket. I dont see you have a plug available for this. I do see the Reese 78051 elsewhere. Should I go ahead with that or do you recommend a different method?

Hi David,

The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty part # RED52VR only comes with a universal wiring harness because Redarc doesn't produce a custom plug-in harness adapter for your truck. To use the Tow-Pro you'd have to wire in the pigtail after cutting the plug on the vehicle which I don't recommend doing. You could go with Reese but they went out of business in early 2025 so finding any replacements parts may be an issue.

Instead, I suggest trying the Curt Venturer NEXT Brake Controller part # C43MV because it has the plug in harness. It works with trailers that have up to three axles and works with electric and electric over hydraulic brake set ups. The C43MV is a time delayed brake controller so if you prefer going with a proportional and are only towing trailers with electric brakes you can use the Curt TriFlex NEXT Brake Controller part # C43GV which is proportional and also has the plug-in adapter harness.

Are you okay with an under-the-dash brake controller or did you prefer a knob in the dash?

@DavidN The Redarc is a great brake controller so I totally understand why you'd want to stick with that. You will need to cut the factory brake plug off to wire it together with the universal harness that came with the brake controller.

I bought this for my Thor Cheteau 2026, after finding where they put the factory plug is was a breeze to put in and drove it around the block and it set itself up. I did have to cut the factory plug off which I was fine with. I like how it’s small and fits perfectly within the dash panel. I have been to the mountains in TN from Fal pulling a 16x8.5 enclosed trailer and it worked great. I would recommend this to anyone looking to install a brake controller in a vehicle. Great product!!
