Hi Larry,
Great question! Yes, the Weigh Safe True Tow weight distribution system part # WS49MR can definitely help with trailer sway. Strong crosswinds, passing semis, and uneven roads can make a trailer feel pretty unsettled behind your Chevy, so I can understand wanting to get that under control.
I like the Weigh Safe True Tow because it combines built in sway control with trunnion style spring bars. The tension and friction points help resist side to side movement, while the spring bars distribute the trailer's weight across your truck and trailer axles. Together, these features help keep everything more level and stable when road and traffic conditions change. It also has a built in tongue weight scale so you always know your tongue weight.
What do you usually use the trailer for camping, work gear, toys, or something else?

Larry, It sounds like you have too much trailer for your truck. A WD hitch will help, but with 1800# tongue weight, unless you have a stripped down work truck, no passengers and nothing in the bed, you are probably over the 1/2 ton truck's GVWR and/or RAWR. First thing I would do is take it to a CAT scale and see where your numbers are at. With a heavy trailer like that on a marginal tow vehicle, any WD hitch will definitely help with sway. It will move some of the weight from your truck's rear axle to the front, which is probably too lightly loaded carrying that heavy tongue weight on the back, causing you handling problems. Regarding the weigh-safe, it's a very good hitch and the scale on it will give you actual tongue weight (before bars are connected). However, I found that like the Equalizer we had previously, it's a bit of a PITA to hitch and unhitch your trailer. You also need to grease the trunions VERY regularly or you will get galling of the metal-metal contact surfaces.
