Is There a 5th Wheel Hitch Rated for 24K or Higher That Works With a B&W Turnoverball?

Updated 10/26/2026 | Published 10/15/2026

Question:

I’m looking for a 5th wheel hitch for a 24K GVWR toy hauler RV. I currently have a BandW turnover ball system installed in my 2022 F-350 dually as it did not come with the factory ford puck system. My current hitch is a BandW Companion but it is only rated for 20K lbs. are there any 5th wheel hitches on the market who utilize the BandW turnover ball system that has a weight rating of 24K lbs or more? All of the hitches I have found are rated at 20K lbs unless you have the factory pick system. Thanks!!

Hi Cody,

There isn't a 5th wheel hitch that will fit the B&W Turnover gooseneck hitch ball hole that is rated highly enough for a 24K fifth wheel trailer. That leaves us with two options, replace the pin box on the trailer with a 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter or install industry standard base rails to mount a 5th wheel hitch to. If you choose to install base rails, you can install industry standard rails like the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails with Installation Kit Part # C16200 and use the Curt PowerRide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Part # C22ER that is rated for 30K. Because the trailer is so heavy, it would be better to go for a 30K hitch instead of something like a 25K hitch so you have some wiggle room. The Curt PowerRide will install onto the ISR rails, has a 13" to 17" adjustable height to get proper bed rail clearance, and 360-degree dual jaw and cast yoke to help reduce rattling.

If you want to replace the pin box instead, we will need to know the Lippert pin box model to get a correct fit for the bolt pattern. For example, if it's a Lippert Rhino or Lippert 1621.

What do you usually carry in your toy hauler?

Cody, I would definitely recommend going with a GenY 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter or consider an Anderson hitch. My experience with CURT has not been favorable and in my opinion there are better options. The CURT is cumbersome, the skid plates don’t last long at all and frankly the workmanship leaves a lot to be desired. Good luck!

@Jeff I really appreciate your feedback on the Curt 5th wheel hitch! The PowerRide is currently the only 30K rated 5th wheel that we carry so I'm hoping there will be more options in the future. For towing that much weight, I tend to prefer using a gooseneck hitch anyway which the B&W Turnover ball is perfectly rated for. You can't go wrong with a Gen-Y 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter, but B&W did release their own adapter in partnership with SumoSprings and it's getting great reviews so far making it look like a good competitor for the Gen-Y!
