Will the Pewag Ladder Tire Chains PWE2228S or PW63NR Zig Zag Tire Chains Fit a LT265/60R20 Tires?

Question:

Hello, I had a couple of questions about the pewag tire chains part PW63NR. One is to confirm the fitment with my Michilin Defender LTX tires, size LT265/60R20. And, the material as compared with the material used with pewag part PWE2228S as far as durability? Thank you, Ftank

Hi Frank,

The Pewag Tire Chains w/Zig Zag pattern part # PW63NR are not a fit for your tire size. The 3229 series of Pewag chains are built for smaller light truck diameters, since your tires have an overall diameter of 32.5" they require a larger chain footprint. Trying to use the PW63NR with your tires would result in them being too short to fit around the entire tire.

The other Pewag tire chains you were looking at, the Pewag Tire Chains with Ladder Pattern part # PWE2228S are an exact fit for your Michelin Defender LTX 265/60-20 tires. The PWE2228S also have smaller links which allows them to fit closer to the tread and reduce the chances of the chains hitting any inner components like the brake lines or control arm. The Pewag Ladder pattern chains are also made of nickel manganese alloy steel, which is superior to the other chains that were solid steel. The nickel manganese alloy steel allows you to have smaller links with the same strength level as steel, but you'll have a smoother ride due to the links being smaller. For frequent use and long trips, the nickel manganese alloy chains are definitely the better option. The only thing that we'll need to check is how much clearance you have in your tire well. If you don't have enough clearance the chains can hit important wiring and other suspension components.

What model truck is your Ram pickup? 1500, 2500, or 3500?
