Do I Need Silver Bed Rails to Install a BAKFlip on a 2026 Ram 1500 With RamBox?

Question:

I have a 2026 Ram 1500 Limited, short bed with ram boxes. I have been told I need Silver Rails in install this?? Currently my limited comes with a Soft Cover and I want to upgrade to the BakFlip for security. In your installation video it looks like you installed on Black Rails, but the video was two years old. Can I use the OEM rails or do I need to spend 400.00 for the Silver Rails? Thank you, David

Hey David.

You do not NEED to burn the $400.00 for the silver rails. I did some digging and found that you're able to keep your OEM black rails if you choose to go with the BAKFlip G2 Hard Tonneau Cover # BAK226227RB. This cover is a confirmed fit for your Ram Boxes and black rails. Now, If you choose to go with the BAKFlip MX4 Hard Tonneau Cover # BAK448227RB then you will need to spend the money on the upgraded silver rails.

Since your concern is security, there is no significant security advantage of the MX4 over the G2. The MX4 uses a heavier duty panel which increases its strength against forced entry by a bit.
