Question:
does it still control the brakes?

Hi Gary, yes, you’ll still retain the normal functions of your 7 way connector, including the trailer brakes, when using the Buyers Products Trailer Connector Strobe Kit, part # BP33SR. The kit adds the strobe function without removing the standard 7 way functions, so your trailer’s brake signal will still be available.
The strobe feature is intended primarily for warning situations such as roadside emergencies, loading or unloading, or when the trailer is parked or moving at very low speeds. I would not recommend using the strobe function during normal highway driving since flashing the brake lights in a strobe pattern could confuse other drivers and may not be legal for normal road use. Are you planning to use the strobes mainly for roadside emergencies or for a work trailer?
