Question:
Is the EH83KR the best option for a 2014 Golf TDi and an eMTB? Are there less expensive options? I only need to transport a single bike. Thanks!

Hi David!
The EcoHitch Invisi Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # EH83KR with it's 2" receiver is typically going to be the best option for carrying an e-bike. This is due to the higher tongue weight capacity and there being significantly more options for racks with that 2" shank size. However, with it being as expensive as it is and you mentioning only ever carrying one bike, I think you can get away with the other hitch we have.
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11000 will also fit your TDi, but it has the 1-1/4" receiver. This means you are limited to 200 pounds of tongue weight, but I still think you will be fine (unless your eMTB is ridiculously heavy). This hitch with something like the Hollywood Racks CrossTrack Bike Rack for 1 Bike - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # HLY68RR (which can handle a bike that weighs up to 66 pounds) would be a very good option. This hitch will also be a lot easier to install than the EcoHitch.
You will need to weigh the pros and cons of price and capacity/hitch size, but I really do think the smaller Curt will work fine in your case.
Out of curiosity, what kind of eMTB are you going to be carrying? We are starting to see more of these lately and they are pretty cool!
