Difference Between Dylux PTC Heat And Heat Pump

Updated 08/20/2026 | Published 07/27/2026

Question:

Quick question...what is the actual difference between the Dylux models with PTC heat and the ones with a heat pump? I'm trying to figure out if the heat pump is worth the extra money.

Hey Brandon! The big difference between these models is the heating output. The PTC models use an electric ceramic heater that provides 6,100 Btu of supplemental heat, while the heat pump models provide 15,000 Btu of heating. We have the following available based on color:

-Dylux RV AC w/ PTC Heating - 15K Btu - White # DY67FR

-Dylux RV AC w/ PTC Heating - 15K Btu - Black # DY77FR

-Dylux RV AC w/ Heat Pump - 15K Btu - White # DY87FR

-Dylux RV AC w/ Heat Pump - 15K Btu - Black # DY27FR

I'd go with PTC heat if you mainly want something to take the edge off a cool morning. If you plan on regularly using the AC system for heat during spring and fall camping, I'd spend the extra money on the heat pump. All of these are complete systems that include the rooftop unit, air distribution box, and remote/thermostat.

Where do you normally camp?
