What Is the Best Suspension Refresh and Gooseneck Pin Box Upgrade for My 2013 Montana 3900FB?

Hello Brady,

Happy to get you all the parts you need so you can head out on your September adventure! And a million thank yous for the pictures. They are always so helpful.

From the pictures, I can see you have the MORryde LRE suspension. Since you've already had a spring break and found several loose U-bolts, I think now is the perfect time to refresh the entire suspension while everything is apart.

Since you're already running the MORryde LRE system, I recommend the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers w/ LRE Leaf Spring Suspensions # MR79ZR. Even though it's called an "Upgrade Kit," in your case it will simply replace all of the worn suspension hardware with new wet bolts, shackles, and bushings made specifically for your existing MORryde LRE suspension. Please let me know if you have a yellow octagon on the front or rear hangers, that would mean you have the correct track and need a different kit, please see attached image.

For the leaf springs, you need the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 7,000 lb Trailer Axles - 24-7/8" Long # e64SR. To replace all of the U-bolts and hardware, you'll need the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200 lb to 7,000 lb Round Trailer Axles - 7" Long U-Bolts # APUBR-8. I recommend swapping all 4 of them out for even wear, so you will need (4) leaf springs and (2) U-bolt kit as you should never re-use the U-bolts.

As for the MORryde equalizers, they use rubber shear springs that typically last between 7 and 15 years. If the rubber has any tears that are 3" long and 3/4" deep, or if it has started to separate from the steel plates, it's time to replace them. Worn rubber can also cause the trailer to sag. If yours need to be replaced, let me know whether they have a 16, 20, or 24 stamped on them. I attached a picture showing where to find that number.

I'd also be happy to help you switch to a gooseneck pin box. Before I can recommend the correct one, I'll need to know your current pin box number. If it's stamped on the king pin, just let me know what it is. If not, send me a picture of the white Lippert sticker showing the serial number and RPO number. I can forward that to my contact at Lippert, and they'll tell me exactly which pin box your trailer came with so I can recommend the correct gooseneck replacement. Perfect timing too, B&W just released theirs and it is AWESOME!

I have 2007 32’ 5th wheel with the moryde LRE suspension. I replaced the leaf springs, the rubber shear springs and wet bolts. I also added a moryde x member that bolted directly from the rubber shear spring housing to the other housing. I did the installation myself. The hardest part was jacking up trailer. I bought a couple of 12 ton bottle jacks and did one side at a time. The tourque specs came with the parts. On mine I noticed a crack in the frame directly above the shear spring housing on each side of trailer so make sure to check yours. I had a local welder fix it for 300 bucks. It tows nice we have done a couple of 1000 mile trips

@Dave Thanks for the response. I like that you brought up the X-Factors, Dave. Brady, if you wanted to add them as well, you'll want the MORryde X-Factor Crossmember for Standard Frame Hangers #MR33WR. Since you have a tandem axle trailer, I recommend installing two X-Factors, one on the front spring hanger and one on the rear spring hanger. That provides the greatest improvement in frame and suspension rigidity. If you only wanted to add one, I'd install it on the center hanger first, as that's typically where the greatest forces are concentrated.

Hello Brady: Agree with recommendation and comment from Dave. We have a 2010 Titanium 34E39RE since new and run the same MorRyde setup. I have changed things out several times over the years and many miles. Agree with Dave on cross brace between LRE mounts. Ours is heavy on the kitchen side so I used the strongest LRE shear spring on that side and run Goodyear G614 tires after numerous tire failures. This past year I replaced all the springs and hardware again after experiencing our first broken spring since new. The greaseable heavy-duty hardware is worth every penny. I support the trailer frame on big jack stands in my shop and then use floor jacks to handle axles.

@DonS Me 3 Don. The X-Factors really are a nice upgrade that will prolong the frame and keep things from twisting.
