Question:

Does Etrailer have a heavy duty replacement for the steering shock/stabilizer on my 2012 Thor Freedom Elite class C motorhome?

Hey Larry,

Thanks for your question. The correct steering stabilizer for your 2012 Thor Freedom Elite Class C depends on the chassis it was built on. For example, the Roadmaster Exact Center Steering Stabilizer # RM47MR is designed for Class C motorhomes built on the Ford E-350 chassis and includes the chassis-specific mounting brackets needed for installation.

If you can reply with your Freedom Elite model number (such as 21C, 23U, 26BE, etc.) or let me know which chassis it has (Ford E-350, E-450, or Sprinter), I'll be happy to recommend the correct steering stabilizer for your motorhome.

Larry, I wrote about the exact center back in July 2025. You might want to read it. I don’t know how it will be on a RV, yet in my opinion and from my experience with one on my 2011 Jeep wrangler, JK, for myself, I found out on the highway it was on the dangerous side. I replaced it with a Tarsflex 9550. My suggestion is to research more on standard steering stabilizers that are well documented for good and solid control. My opinion, but the exact center is more for off-roading, than for mainly highway driving or occasional off road with a jeep once in a while out west where I like to go. Hope you take time and patience to get it right the first time; although I did, but the results were not good and cost me a lot only to go back to a better steering stabilizers! Good luck!

Thanks Christopher, our 2012 Thor Freedom Elite is a 28Z, with a E-450 chassis. The motorhome has a steering dampener, I'd like to upgrade that rather than change to a steering stabilizer. Larry

@LarryH Gotcha. We're not going to carry any replacement dampeners unfortunately. The steering stabilizer kit we have for your E450 chassis is # ST98MR should you choose to go that route.
