You will typically benefit the most from a weight distribution system on your 2013 Chevrolet Silverado if your trailer weight is more than 50 percent of your vehicle weight, or if your Silverado is sagging when the trailer is hooked up. Sway control is helpful when dealing with crosswinds or when large trucks are passing by.
The best way to find a system that is a fit for you is to know two weight ratings, the gross trailer weight which is the weight of the trailer when it is full loaded and ready to tow, and the tongue weight. Tongue weight is the tongue weight of the trailer added to the weight of any cargo placed behind the rear axle of the towing vehicle. I have attached a helpful article that explains weight distribution and sway-control you can check out. I have also attached a helpful article that explains how to determine the tongue weight of your trailer.
You will want to choose a system that your tongue weight is closest to the middle of the range for the system. For example, if you find that your tongue weight is 600 lbs, a system like the Strait-Line Weight Distribution with Sway Control, part # RP66073 would be a good fit. It is rated to handle tongue weights between 400 and 800 lbs.
The Reese Weight Distribution System # RP66542 with Friction Sway Control # 83660, is designed for tongue weight ranging from 600 lbs to 1,200 lbs and for gross trailer weight up to 12,000 lbs. This system comes with the adjustable shank which will fit 2 inch receiver openings.
