Will Curt C13397 Hitch Block The Tailgate Kick Sensor On A 2026 Honda CR-V?

Question:

Wondering if we can confirm installing a receiver hitch on a 2026 Honda CRV with a tailgate kick sensor will hamper the operation of that system? I have a customer who is concerned about this before having us install.

Hey Peter, thanks for reaching out. Installing a trailer hitch like the Curt # C13397 on a 2026 Honda CR-V will partially block the tailgate kick sensor, but it will still work. Basically, the hitch receiver blocks the area directly under the sensor, but you can waive your foot on either side of the receiver, rather than directly underneath, and the sensor will activate. It may take a few tries to find the "sweet spot" that activates the sensor but in almost every case the sensor still works, it just works a little bit differently.

Does this customer use the kick sensor a lot? Most people I talk to say they rarely use it.

Mine works great easy to install if you have some knowledge and tools work on a utility trailer I have to haul up to 7,500 pounds

@2025J Nice! How does the kick sensor do? Do you use it ever?

@JesseM. Sorry, my CR-V is a hybrid sport & is not equipped with the kick sensor. I believe that it is available only in the hybrid sport touring model.
