Do I need a weight distribution hitch for a 2013 Porsche Diesel towing a Pebble Flow RV?

Updated 05/05/2026 | Published 04/30/2026

Question:

Hey Guys. 2013 Porsche Diesel 2foot tow setup installed when new. Buying a Pebble Flow RV and planning to tow it with the Cayenne Diesel making that distinction I know in Germany its documented it can tow 10,000 lbs plus but rated lower to not get taxed as a heavy truck. Unibody construction of course so assuming I wont need a tow bar. But I wanted to check with you guys if you have any thoughts or suggestions. Im including the actual documentation from the manual for reference. Love your site and what you do! Scott de Kuyper Pebble Flow has a dry weight of 5,800 lbs and a GVWR of 6,800 lbs, which accounts for cargo, water, and gear. Pebble Flow can be towed by many gas, hybrid, or electric tow vehicles - check with your manufacturer to confirm towing capacities. All work well with Pebble Flow’s Easy Tow™ Active Tow Assist system, provided your tow vehicle is rated to tow at least 6,800 lbs. Easy Tow™ with Active Tow Assist reduces the load your vehicle experiences while towing, helping provide a safer and more effortless towing experience. It can improve fuel economy when towing with a gas-powered vehicle and help extend range when towing with an EV. Regardless of your tow vehicle’s fuel type, you can also switch the Pebble Flow into Recharge Mode to use regenerative braking to recharge the trailer’s battery while driving. Importantly, Easy Tow™ does not change the required GVWR or tongue weight limits, and your tow vehicle must still meet the recommended towing capacity rating. ebble Flow has a dry weight of 5,800 lbs and a GVWR of 6,800 lbs, which accounts for cargo, water, and gear. Thanks for reaching out Scott and we appreciate you choosing etrailer!

First off, the Pebble Flow is one of my favorite RV's released over the past 5 years.
The big thing to keep in mind is the manufacturer’s U.S. rated towing capacity for your Cayenne. While you may see higher ratings in other markets, those don’t always translate directly due to differences in testing standards, cooling, braking, and regulations.

With the Pebble Flow’s 6,800 lb GVWR, you’re getting fairly close to the Cayenne’s max capacity. So staying within the weight capacity, especially tongue weight and payload is going to be important.

As for equipment, when you mentioned “tow bar,” I believe you’re referring to a weight distribution hitch. Even though your Cayenne is a unibody vehicle, a WDH is actually a good idea in this situation. It helps distribute the trailer’s tongue weight more evenly across the vehicle and can improve stability and handling, especially when towing near capacity.

The manufacturer advises using a Weigh Safe Hitch when towing the Pebble. True Tow Weight Distribution # WS94RR is properly rated for your setup, includes built-in sway control for stability and features an integrated tongue weight scale so you can dial everything in accurately without guesswork

The Pebble Flow’s "Easy Tow" system is a great feature but as they note, it doesn’t change the required towing capacity. The Cayenne still needs to be fully rated to handle the trailer on its own.

What feature are you most excited about once you get the Pebble Flow?

Thanks James. That's very helpful and yes I'm old and call every tool attaching to any trailer a tow bar. ?? No question for me the insta-camp and self-driving feature makes camping fun again. Love AS but setup and tech is SO outdated. It's like Pebbles chief designer says;"Frankly, all this tech should have been on trailers ten years ago." I've think many of us are at a point where at these prices things should function much more efficiently. Pebble does this better than any trailer out there for me. I look forward to being able to pack up and leave in 5-10 minutes. Some people love all the prep work but not me. I just want to go and get to where I'm going. Also it's bizarre to me how small AS and other kitchen counters are? Pebble is small but so much more useful. If I was just planting my RV somewhere and not camping much the 27' AS Globetrotter is a fabulous choice. (Better storage than the larger ones too). But even then I'd be gutting half the mechanicals and replacing them with updated units. Thanks again! I will order a "tow bar" from you guys for my Cayenne. Once it blows up I'm going Rivian. Scott

@ScottK lol you’re definitely not alone on the “tow bar”, we hear that all the time The quick setup alone is a huge win, not everyone wants to spend half their trip just getting camp ready. Whenever you’re ready for the Cayenne setup just give us a shout and we’ll make sure you get the right hitch. If you end up going Rivian down the road, we’ve got you covered there too! 1-800-298-1517 - Product specialist can assist with finding the correct parts or answering questions live.
