Is There A Jump Starter Pack For Cars When The Battery Gets To 0 Volts? Most Jumpers Don't Recognize

Updated 02/05/2026 | Published 01/27/2026

Question:

Hey, I’ve had jump starters fail because they couldn’t recognize a battery with zero voltage. Is there something that handles that better?

Hey Chris - that’s one of the most frustrating situations out there. I've actually had that happen to me awhile back with a 3-in-1 jump pack / air compressor / light.

Projecta units like the # VX73NR 1,400A and # VX23NR 2,000A are designed for exactly that scenario. Their manual override mode can run up to 10 minutes, giving the battery time to build enough voltage to start.

Most jump starters don't have the override charge mode, or if they do, it's often under a minute - which just isn’t enough for fully dead batteries.

What vehicle gave you trouble before? And what type of battery was it? Either way, I think you'll really like one of these options! The units also charge back up from the vehicle's battery/alternator once it gets jump started which is a cool feature.

I’ve had a couple jump packs that just shut off or not even turn on when the battery was completely dead. Sounds like this override mode is different. Is it hard to use?

@Ryan Oh yeah that can be annoying, I've been there before on a different branded unit I still have. It's not hard to use at all Ryan. The override mode is there for situations where the battery voltage is too low to be recognized, and it lets the unit apply power long enough to bring the battery back before you start it. The nice part is Projecta allows that mode to run much longer than most jump starters, which is why it works better on batteries that are truly dead instead of just weak.
