Hello, I’m looking for a recommendation for a 5th wheel for my 2026 ram 5500 chassis cab.. truck will be hauling a 53 ft 6 car trailer so I’m looking for a 5th wheel that’s compatible with a chassis cab and one that can handle some heavy weight.. thank you

Hello Matt, thanks for reaching out. For your 2026 Ram 5500 chassis cab hauling a 53 ft car trailer, you are correct to focus on a heavy duty fifth wheel designed for high pin weights. We do offer the Reese Low-Profile 30K Fifth Wheel Hitch # RP30054, which is rated for up to 30,000 lbs gross trailer weight and is a solid option for this type of cab and chassis application.
Because the Ram 5500 chassis cab does not have a standard pickup bed or factory frame mounting points, there is no bolt-on fifth wheel kit available. You will need a properly fabricated mounting surface, typically a minimum 1/2 inch steel plate welded or securely bolted to the flatbed or deck, to safely support the hitch. It is also critical to account for pin weight, which on a trailer this size can be substantial, as well as axle ratings and frame capacity. Hitch placement is important too, as the king pin should be positioned correctly over or slightly ahead of the rear axle to maintain proper weight distribution and handling.
We strongly recommend having the plate fabrication and hitch installation handled by a qualified commercial or trailer fabrication shop to ensure the setup meets structural and safety requirements.
