Clean Way To Connect And Disconnect 12V Battery In Off-Grid Solar System Instead Of Alligator Clamps

Updated 01/02/2026 | Published 12/30/2025

Question:

I’m setting up a small off-grid solar system and I don’t want to be using alligator clamps on the battery. Is there a cleaner way to connect and disconnect a solar charger?

Hey Laura! Yes, this is a situation where a quick-disconnect works well. For a single 12V battery in an off-grid or solar setup, the Connect-Ease # CE66RR gives you a solid, dedicated connection point instead of relying on alligator clamps that can slip.

If your solar setup uses two 12V batteries wired in series for 24V, the # CE58RR is the better fit since it keeps that series wiring intact while still giving you a single plug connection for the charger. Either way, once it’s installed, connecting and disconnecting the solar charger is quick and secure, without stacking ring terminals every time you change something.

Is this a portable solar panel you move around, or more of a semi-permanent setup? That usually helps decide which direction makes the most sense, and it’s something other off-grid folks are thinking about too.

@Laura Okay nice, I have a portable one for 12v batteries as well. I mainly use it on my old 64 Chevy C10 truck I've fixed up over the last few years. The # CE66RR will be your best option for 12V; let me know how you like it!
