Will The Westin Sportsman Grille Guard Offer Protection From A High-Speed Deer Strike?
Updated 01/20/2026 | Published 12/21/2025 >
Question:
Does anyone have deer strike experience with this guard? If so, please share and include information such as make, model, and year of the vehicle, Please include approximate speed of the vehicle and size of the deer at the time of the strike, and damage assessment. I realize this is a brush guard, but stuff happens. I dont want to go full Mad Maxinch if I dont have to. Thanks for any input.

Hey Jim, thanks for reaching out. That's a fair question, but there just isn't a controlled or repeatable way for us to provide real-world deer strike data like that, and testing these by intentionally hitting wildlife is generally frowned upon. I even asked around the office here and unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), nobody has any real experience hitting a deer with the Westin grille guard. Although it is deer season here in Missouri, so I did hear about a few close calls but no high speed strikes. Honestly if you were to install one and drive down here, it might not be too hard to get the strike information you are wanting haha
That said, what I can tell you is that the Westin Sportsman Grille Guard # 40-2075 is designed as a brush and light impact guard, not a full crash-rated animal strike system. It can help protect against minor impacts, brush, and debris, and may reduce damage in a low-speed encounter, but it’s not engineered to guarantee protection in a higher-speed deer strike. So they do add some light protection, but not exactly a "Mad Max" or "Killdozer" solution. For that level of protection, you’re generally looking at much heavier-duty, purpose-built systems.
