Is The Fas-Top Camper Shell Tall Enough For Camping Or Is It Too Low? 2025 Sierra 1500 6-1/2' Bed

Updated 11/18/2025 | Published 11/06/2025

Question:

Is the Fas-Top FT44EV topper tall enough for my camping gear, or does it sit lower than the cab on a 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 6-1/2' bed?

Good question, Jordan. On your 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 6-1/2' bed, the # FT44EV sits just under the cab roofline, usually a couple inches, making it more aerodynamic than an empty bed since the wind just continues the lines of the truck roof. Inside, there’s still enough clearance for plenty of big items like coolers, duffel bags, a dog crate, or even a truck bed mattress like # 341002. You can just measure out to your tailgate and bed rails, and measure up to the roof line, and that's about how much room you'll have, Jordan.

Are you planning to camp under it or just protect gear from the elements? If camping’s the plan, the Traveler combo # FT48RV might be the better fit since it adds the integrated tonneau below the topper for full coverage and security when you take the topper down. That tonneau will protect your anything under the bed rails when you don't need the full camping setup.

I’m planning to camp under it - just me and a small air mattress. Do you think I’ll have enough room to move around comfortably or sit up?

@Jordan With the # FT44EV on your Sierra, you’ll have about 38 to 40 inches of space from the bed floor to the center bow - roughly the same as other soft toppers like Softopper or Bestop. It’s not tall enough to stand, but it’s plenty of room to sit up or stretch out with a compact air mattress like the # 341002.
