Yes Deedee, you can crank the engine with the heater plugged in (it doesn’t interfere electrically). Just remember to unplug before driving off so you don’t damage the cord. Many owners route the plug near the grille for easy access so they can run an extension cord to it, and easily disconnect and drive off.

What heater were you looking into? We have some sizes for common batteries such as # ZE77FR for group 22NF, 26, 26R, 51, 51R, and 70 batteries, # ZE87FR for group 24, 24F, 24H, 24R, 24T, 25, 27, 27F, 27H, 31, 34, 34R, 35, 38, and 74 batteries, and # ZE27FR for group 31 or series-parallel configurations like heating multiple batteries in a bank (golfcarts, RVs etc.).

Let me know what your setup is like, and I'll fine the correct heater(s) for the cold weather!

It’s for my ’06 F-250 diesel. I already run a block heater and figured I might as well keep the batteries warm too since they slow way down below zero.

@Deedee Oh nice! Those older Power Strokes are beasts but they really appreciate a little help on cold mornings, like most diesels. If you can, plug both into a timer so they kick on a few hours before you head out, unless it's cold enough to where you want them to run each night. Do you keep the truck parked outside overnight, or is it in a garage?

@AndrewN Outside, unfortunately! We’re in South Dakota, so it’s a daily battle this time of year as we get into mid November. I’ll grab a timer like you said, makes sense not to waste power all night.

@Deedee South Dakota winter definitely earns some respect! That timer will make a big difference - saves power and still keeps everything ready to fire right up by morning. Safe travels!
