Can I Just Replace One Side Dexter Brakes On 7.5k Anti Lock Brake Axle With Tow Assist?

Question:
If I only replace one side of my 7.5K axle with new ABS brakes, will the Tow Assist still work right?

Greg, it’ll technically function, but Dexter (and etrailer) recommends replacing in left/right pairs per axle. Mixing new and worn shoes changes the braking and feedback the ABS system expects, which can cause it to pulse unevenly. Even on non-ABS systems, it's still best to replace pairs per axle for even braking. For consistent braking, swap both the left and right # DX23WR assemblies at the same time, then let the system reinitialize when you reconnect power.
Was your replacement due to wear or sensor damage? Keep in the mind, the sensors are not included in these assemblies as they are just the brake pads and backing plates built into an assembly.
