What Stealth Wiring do I Need for My 2025 Volvo XC90 T8 PHEV?

Updated 12/01/2025 | Published 10/24/2025

Question:

Hi. I’m interested in a Stealth Hitch for my 2025.5 Volvo XC90 T8 PHEV. I’d like a full kit for towing with wire harness. Can you please clarify the products in your site that will provide this? It looks like I may need to purchase multiple. Do you sell Stealth Hitch’s specific harness? If yes, can you clarify the difference between “active” and standard harnesses that Stealth Hitch offers? Is a software update required to the car? Can this be DIY or is a dealer required? I own a “OBDeleven” if that can work. Finally, do you provide a dummy plug for when using passive accessories like bike racks? Thank you!

Hello Brian,

I reached out to my contact at Stealth about this, and this is what he had to say:

"We initially only offered the Active wiring harness for the XC90 which includes the Volvo Trailer module and there was only one Volvo Trailer module. Over the last 18 months or so Volvo has come out with 4 or 5 new trailer modules. A new module for Pre 2024 model year. A second module for the first have of the model year 2024 (must check VIN number to determine which module) and then a third module for the second half of 2024 and now 2025. We presented this to etrailer and we were told that you were not interested in offering 3 different wiring options as it is to complicated and confusing. I believe you are only offering the wiring harness for model years 2023 and older. Because of all the confusion and constant change with the Volvo Trailer module, we came out with a passive wiring harness for the XC90 which works on all model years. That is a recent development, so not sure if we circled back with etrailer to offer that. We do offer conversion kits for the 2025/2025.5 Volvo XC90 with the Volvo module as well as the passive conversion kit on our website.

The active harness give you the Volvo functions like disabling the backup sensors when a trailer is electrically connected so it does not beep at you when you put the vehicle in reverse. It also give you a higher level of stability control when towing. The passive wiring harness just mimics the lights from the vehicle onto the trailer.

The Active wiring harness with the Volvo Trailer Module does need to be programmed at the dealership once installed as is requires VIDA software."

So they have the wiring, but it sounds like you should reach out to them directly since we are not adding it to our site. Having too many options for a specific year, make, and model can set-up people for failure when ordering the right one, especially since the VIN needs to be checked.

The number on their site: 678-714-3592

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do from my end.

Hey Brian, were you able to connect with Stealth Hitch about the wiring options for your XC90? I’m curious if you went with the active or passive harness in the end. Knowing what worked could help others sorting through the same model-year differences.
