Is There A Running Board Option For 2023 Ram 2500 Short Bed Crew Cab That Allows Bed Access?

Updated 08/04/2025 | Published 07/29/2025

Question:

I’ve got the 2023 Ram 2500 Laramie Sport short bed with crew cab and wheel-to-wheel OEM boards. Will I lose that bed step functionality if I go with Romik? I do want to upgrade nonetheless.

Jim, the Romiks # RMK96DR in black and # RMK36DR in silver/black are cab-length boards, so yes, you would lose the wheel-to-wheel functionality of your current boards.

If you need a step near the bed, you can instead go with the Westin PRO TRAXX Oval Nerf Bars - 5" - Polished Stainless Steel - Wheel-2-Wheel # 21-534320 which goes to the end of your cab and allows you access to the front of the bed.

What option do you think you want to go with? the Romik are just as good as the Westin, and they are aluminum so they won't rust. But The Westin would be the winner if the cab-to-cab length of the Romik is a deal breaker for you.

Appreciate the help, Andrew. Are the Romik boards easy to keep clean? I’m in and out of dusty jobsites and gravel driveways, so I’m hoping they don’t cake up too bad or get slippery.

@Jim The Romik boards actually do really well in dirty environments. Since they’re made from anodized aluminum with a fully open tread pattern, there’s nowhere for water or mud to pool, so they don’t cake up the way some other nerf bar steps can. A quick rinse with a hose or pressure washer usually knocks everything off, and the finish resists corrosion even with gravel and dust constantly beating on them. They also don’t get slick easily. The surface has raised traction ribs that stay grippy even when things get wet or dusty. If you’re in and out of work zones all day, you’ll probably appreciate that they don’t turn into a slip hazard like some smoother factory boards.
