Is it Normal for Demco Hijacker Autoslide to Move by Hand After Some Miles

Updated 10/31/2025 | Published 02/21/2025

Question:

Hi, I have the 18K Demco auto slide hitch and recently replaced the white upper slide plate, I torqued everything down, and after I couldnt move the head at all, now that I have used the hitch for awhile the head is very loose and moves very easy , is this normal , or do I need to torque everything down again ? Thanks , Dennis.

Hey Dennis, this is pretty normal. We've checked with Demco before on this and they've told us that it's normal for the hitches to be difficult to move by hand at first but then once they've been used a little bit they can be moved by hand. If it makes you feel better you can check the torque specs again as there's no harm in doing so.

Hey Dennis, how has the head movement on your Demco autoslide hitch been since you checked the torque again? Your update could make it easier for others who notice the same change after replacing the slide plate.

@JamesonC After using the hitch for a few trips the head has loosed up but but not to the extent it was before , I'll make it part of my maintenance to check the torque once a year .

@DennisP Yes, routine maintenance like that is most important Dennis! Thanks for the response.
