Can Advent Air AC Units Actually Replace Dometic

Updated 02/13/2025 | Published 02/10/2025

Question:

I have Dometic B57915.711C0 on my camping trailer. Need to replace it as it cools very porly. It does have a 6 pole contact as seen in attached photo. I am looking for a plug in replacement with a starting capacitor to hopefully run it on a Honda 2000i generator. Will this unit ACDOM135 work? See attached photos for detailes on my existing unit. Thanks

Hey Roland, what we have found is that none of the RV AC units can be mixed and matched with other brand lower vent assemblies although at this time it does look like some are advertised that way including the # ACDOM135. Sometimes it works, especially with the Advent and Dometic brands but there's no reliable way to know for sure when it will and when it won't. This is something we have found out the hard way recently.

So instead you'd need a kit like the part # ACM135CH which comes with the new lower vent assembly as well as a start capacitor like you are looking for.

Thanks for your response Jameson. I will probably go with the ADV94FR to get the wall thermostat. I know I have to install new wiring for the thermostat. Can you tell me the difference between adding the start capacitor or adding the softstart. There is a big price difference, but will the be a big difference in starting wattage? Can you tell me the starting wattage with each of those options. Thanks Roland

@RolandF This is a really good question. So a start capacitor is basically a "hard starter" and essentially it's like a supplemental battery that the AC unit draws from when attempting to start and splits the amperage load. The SoftStart # SSR54FR also does have a capacitor but it works to control voltage and regulates it so that the AC is able to start in a smoother way that also draws less current. So it provides additional power but it delivers the power in a smoother way that allows it to not draw as much, be quieter, and also prolong the life of components. So the Softstart does cost more but it's more than just a fancy capacitor
