Will Rear Hatch Door Open on 2014 Chrysler Town and Country When the Rola Cargo Carrier is Mounted

Updated 06/10/2014 | Published 06/08/2014

Question:

Will the rear hatch door open with this storage box installed? If it opens with the box installed is there room to access and unload contents from the back of the vehicle?

If it is important that you have access to your rear cargo area with the cargo box installed, I strongly recommend the Rola Swinging Enclosed Cargo Carrier, # 59109. As long as the measurement from the center of the hitch receiver to the outer edge of the hatch on your 2014 Chrysler Town and Country is less than 34 inches, the hatch will clear the cargo box and you would have full access to your cargo area.

It is very unlikely that you would be able to easily access the cargo area while the Rola Tilting Enclosed Cargo Carrier 59110 is installed. The cargo box just doesn't sit far enough away from the vehicle to allow the hatch to fully open. To determine the amount of limited access that you would have, I can provide you with a few measurements that may help. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the cargo box is 12 inches. Measure 12 inches straight out from the hitch pin hole on your Town and Country and grab something laying around to mark your spot. Then I would use a tape measure or yard stick to measure 25-1/2 inches up from there. 25-1/2 inches is the estimated height of the cargo box above the hitch receiver. Now you should have a good idea as to where the cargo box would sit and at what point it would interfere with your hatch.

These Rola Cargo Carriers are made for use with Class III and IV 2 inch trailer hitches.
