Question:
Is this waterproof Can you leave it plugged in for a long time? How Hot does it get? I want to use it under the exterior unit of a mini-split to keep the water from freezing on the concrete pad below the unit

Hello Greg, thanks for reaching out. The Kat's Heaters Oil or Transmission Pan Heating Pad # KH24100 is water resistant but technically not water proof. It is intended to be plugged in overnight or for several days at a time. Keeping it plugged in for longer than that is really uncharted territory. This is a trans heater so most people would just plug it in overnight or just for a few hours before you start your vehicle. There is not a specific max temperature listed for this pad since a lot of external factors like air temperature and wind can change the temperature. Kat's does warn that this should only be used on metal and to avoid placing the pad on plastic because it is hot enough to potentially melt any plastic surface, which should give you a good idea of how hot this pad can get.

Hey Greg, how did things go using the Kat’s Heaters pad under your mini-split unit? Did it keep the water from freezing on the concrete pad like you hoped? Your results could really help others thinking about a similar setup.
