Question:
Hello, I have never towed anything before but I now own a pop up camper. I will be using a 2008 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 4 door pick up. I know I need a hitch and wiring harness but not sure if I need anything else? I also do not know if I need a class 1, 2 or 3. My current pop up is about 1100 lbs I think but if the family enjoys it I could see myself buying a bigger Pop up in the future so I would like the trailer hitch to be somewhat versatile. Any suggestions? Thanks for your response.

All of the trailer hitches for the 2008 Toyota Tacoma are Class III hitches so that narrows it down a bit! I would go with a Class III even if there were other options because the Class III hitch has a higher capacity and the 2 inch receiver is compatible with more accessories.
Curt trailer hitch # 13323 is the most popular option for the 2008 Toyota Tacoma so I recommend it. I have linked a video showing how it installs and a link to the installation instructions.
Since you will be doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. And for trailer wiring I recommend Tow Ready harness # 118496. It just plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring. I have linked a video showing how it installs.
Considering the trailer does not weigh much, 1100 pounds, you really do not need anything else like weight distribution or a brake controller. But should you go with a bigger trailer in the future those are things you will want to consider.
If the trailer does not have safety chains already you will want to add a couple, # 2114-553-04. They are required by law.
I have included some links that you should also find helpful.
