How To Run Wire To Battery On 2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLI

Updated 09/16/2024 | Published 09/14/2024

Question:

2020 VW Jetta GLI using harness c95rv from curt Im nearing the end of installing this trailer harness but Im slightly confused on how Im supposed to run the power lead from the trunk to the battery. Instructions didnt go into detail but Im not sure if I run the cable through the interior or if Im supposed to run it through the outside/underneath the car. Instructions mention avoiding pinch points and hot and/or rotating parts so Im assuming its meant to be routed outside the car. If Im meant to run it from underneath the car, where would an opening be in the trunk area to route the cable from the inside to outside the car? Thank you in advance

Hello Again, Roberto. It is hard for me to give you specific instructions since we have not actually seen a 2020 VW Jetta GLI here at our shop. When I install wiring harnesses, I almost always prefer to run with black wire underneath the vehicle. I will usually try to secure it to the driver side frame rail where it will be up out of the way away from any moving parts. Sometimes there are brake lines or other wiring present on the frame that you can follow. Run the wire up to the front, then on most vehicles it is pretty easy to find a way to route the wire up to the battery. If you are by yourself using a fish wire to pull the wire up to the battery if you can't reach it. If you want to be really fancy you can run the wire thru some wire loom. This is not necessary, but it can help to extend the life of the harness. I hope this helps. Feel free to commend below if you have any other questions.

Thank you very much for the fast reply. I'm glad to get confirmation that it should be run outside/underneath the car. I had a tough time finding somewhere I could feed the wire through from the trunk to the outside and eventually gave up but maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. Thank you again, you've been a great help.

@Roberto Glad I could help. A lot of times you can pull back a trim panel and find a way through. Look for a rubber gromet that has other wires run through it. In some cases you can run the wire thru the tail light housing and out the bottom. Maybe drilling one small hole somewhere would make things easier?
