Question:

I have a 2014 SMART Fortwo with Roadmaster baseplate 52285-1. I am attaching photos of one of the baseplate arms we have now. We need a new tow bar. Will the RM-020 work as a tow bar? Is the cross bar necessary? We would like to not have that if possible. Can we use these arms with a different direct connect?

Hi Keith,

Yep, the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit # 52285-1 on your 2014 Smart Fortwo is 100% compatible with the Roadmaster Tracker Tow Bar # RM-020.

That said, the Tracker # RM-020 does require the use of the crossbar, as does any tow bar with those specific base plates. The arms on the base plates unfortunately don't have a way to use direct-connect tow bars.

Hey Keith, how did things go with the Roadmaster Tracker tow bar on your Smart Fortwo? Were you able to get it set up with the crossbar as mentioned? Your update could make it easier for others working with the same base plate setup.
