Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 08/22/2024

Question:

Installed the BandW Gooseneck hitchBWGNRK1020 on on My 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 with the 6 3/4foot bed. Now I am looking at a 2021 Alliance Valor 40V13 setup for a 5th wheel to purchase. How do I know what Gen-Y 5th wheel Gooseneck Adapter or Pinbox I need that will work with my RV and my truck?

Hello Dwight; to find the right Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box you will need to know the pin box bolt pattern and the GVWR. I was able to look up the GVWR with the information you provided so we know it is 20,000 lbs. Using the Gen-Y formula GVWR x 0.22 = TW we get 4,400 lbs. This means you need a 5,500 lb tongue weight model.

The pin box can usually be identified by the sticker on it. Since it looks like you haven't bought it yet I would ask the dealer or whoever else if they know what pin box it has right now. If all else fails you can measure. Check out the help article below which explains how to measure and identify.

You can choose from the following based on the type of pin box you're replacing:

-Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert 1621/1621HD # GY66FR

-Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert 1116/1716 # GY73FR

-Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert Rhino # GY23GR

Hey Dwight, did you find out which pin box your Alliance Valor has so you could match it with the right Gen-Y gooseneck adapter? Knowing what worked out could really help others looking at a similar setup with their Sierra.
