Can I Install a Brake Controller on a 2019 Subaru Outback?

I have had numerous places tell me they will not add brake assist to my 2019 Subaru Outback 6 cylinder because it could cause problems with Abs system and tronix ? system. I currently have hitch 2 with 4 pin. I bought a vintage camper, around 1200 lbs. which has brakes. So I need a 7 pin. Will adding brake assist really cause problems? If not, installation dealers in the Pittsburgh Area, preferably in south or east.

Hey Patricia! No, it won't and you need a brake controller, think that's what you meant when you asked about brake assist, to use the brakes on your trailer. We sell brake controller's to Subaru owners daily and the best one for your 2019 Outback is going to be the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED52VR.
The Redarc item # RED52VR is a proportional brake controller that slows your trailer when your Subaru decelerates or brakes. It activates immediately. It has a unique installation method where the only part visible is the control knob. This allows you to mount the receiver behind your dash so you don't have a bulky controller in your way to bang your knees on.
The included wiring harness will attach to your Outback's factory wiring.
Since you already have a 4-way connector, to add a 7-Way you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your Outback with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.
