Help With Getting Dexter #9 Torsion Axle Aligned Correctly On a 2008 Living Lite Trailer
Updated 05/15/2024 | Published 05/14/2024 >
Question:
Good morning! I replaced a Dexter 9 Torflex on a 2008 Living Lite QuickSilver 8.0 over the weekend. With the axle lightly installed, I measured from the hitch to the center of each hub and the closest I can get the axle to line up is 3/16” of an inch. Do you have any recommendations on how I can get the axle more even or can I run it this way? We tried ping and reinstalling the axle, and liberal use of a rubber mallet, but it will not budge any further. Thank you for any suggestions you have. Aaron S

I would start by measuring to your mounting brackets for the Dexter # 9 Torflex axle with the tongue of the trailer to determine if they are somehow out of alignment. This will help you to ensure the axle was not damaged in shipment. If the mounts themselves are out of alignment you will want to have the trailer inspected for any damage that would cause them to be out of alignment. These steps will help you get the axle perfectly aligned so you do not prematurely damage your tires or hubs with the axle being out of alignment.
A possible solution as you are very close would be to use the Lift Kit # K71-723-01 I see you found as the little play they have in the bolt holes may allow you to get the axle positioned exactly where you need it. But I would verify the chassis on your trailer is not damaged and the axle is perfectly straight before going that route.
