Question:
Hello. I am towing a 30 foot 6k pound camper. I am towing with a 2024 ram 3500. I currently has a fastway e2 wdh. I am experiencing extreme sway. Anything over 50mph is almost uncontrollable. What would your recommendation be for the best hitch to prevent sway. Unfortunately I can’t afford a pro ride hitch. I would like to stay under the 1,000 dollar range. Thank you.

Hey John,
If you're experiencing uncontrollable sway at 50mph towing a 6k trailer with a 2024 Ram 3500 you likely have a much different issue than you're thinking. I would first check the wheels to see if they're straight inline and that there isn't some decent camber going on. If you find they're not straight then you likely have a bent axle and this would explain the extreme sway.
From there I would fully load the trailer like you're going to camp and then measure the tongue weight. Too little or too much tongue weight can throw off how the trailer tracks behind you. There's videos you can find if you search how to properly load a trailer where they have a model car towing a trailer and they show how the trailer is loaded can affect the tongue weight and cause sway. Your tongue weight should be roughly 10-15% of the trailer's GVWR (toy haulers have crazy different unloaded and loaded tongue weights due to weight of hauled "toy").
The weight distribution hitch you use will have a tongue weight range that we recommend trying to be in the middle of when fully loaded so you have a bit of wiggle room. Using a hitch with a range outside of your trailer's tongue weight can cause issues as well and could be the cause of your sway. Fastway's e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control is actually one of the better options that I'll typically recommend. If you don't have the # FA92-00-0800 (400lb to 800lb tongue weight capacity) then you'll want to swap out the spring bars for two of part # FA92-02-0899 to get in the right range for your 6k trailer.
I would also doublecheck that your system is installed properly. If you need some help I've attached a short video below where Ryan will walk you through the steps. Let me know what you find and we can keep troubleshooting.
