The best way to carry bikes is with a hitch mounted bike rack because it's easier to load bikes, can have a higher weight rating, and they don't make contact with your vehicle. For your 2016 Volvo XC70 I recommend using the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e77KR because of the matte black finish. This does a great job of blending in with your vehicle but also hiding any scratches that might happen from road debris.
