Brake Controller, Wiring and Hitch Recommendation for a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

Published 04/04/2014

Question:

I am trying to purchase a brake controller TK90160 for my 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan eL to tow Rockwood A122S PUP trailer. If possible, I want to purchase this brake controller and all needed accessories at one time. BTW, the trailer has a 7pin RV connector. Can you recommend all necessary parts for me so that my DIY work will be easier? FYI, I am a first timer for towing, and I do not have any wiring in my van for towing an RV as of now. Thanks

The first thing wiring related you need for the towing setup of your 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan is a 4-way. This is the trailer wiring that controls the turn signal functions of your trailer. For that you would want the Curt Wiring Harness part # C55376. This installs easily by plugging in line with your vehicle taillights.

Next you need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that it will match your trailer's connector and so you can install and use a brake controller. For that you need the universal brake controller installation kit 4-way to 7-way adapter part # ETBC7. This comes with everything needed to install a 7-way and a brake controller. I attached installation instructions and an install video for you to check out.

With those two parts you could install the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160. I attached an FAQ on installing a brake controller from scratch for you to check out also, but the # ETBC7 instructions should cover everything.

If you also needed a hitch the best option would be the Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 75119. This is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch opening that has the most capacity for your vehicle that we offer. If ball mounts and hitch balls are needed I would recommend the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit part # EBMK4. The included ball can be converted between 1-7/8 inch ball and a 2 inch ball. I attached review videos.
