How to Help Prevent 2022 Toyota RAV4 Trailer Hitch from Rusting

Question:

Hi I had a hitch similar to the ones listed for the 2022 Toyota RAV4 installed a few years ago on a different car. Since then the hitch itself got a considerable amount of rust even though we live near DC so our winters are relatively mild and salt is not used very often. Which of the hitches shown on this page has the best rust resistance?

Rust resistance is going to be the same for all of the hitches listed for your 2022 Toyota RAV4 since they all have the same standard of powder coating used for protection. I recommend going with the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e23ZR simply because it has a matte black finish that does a better job at matching any black trim on your RAV4.

I've installed a few of the etrailer hitches on my personal vehicles and they hold up well but it is important to check periodically for any scratches from road debris and recoat those spots with black spray paint to keep the rust from spreading. This is the case with any hitch installed on any car, really.
