Hitch Availability for 2009 Mercedes E350 Sedan

Question:
I want to tow a trailer of about 3500lbs with my 2009 MB E350 sedan. In Europe, tow bars/hitches exist for this, but not here in the US. The only available off-the-shelf product is a Class I hitch. Can you source a Class II or III hitch, or fabricate one? Thank you.

Expert Reply:
For lighter duty vehicles like your 2009 Mercedes Benz E350 sedan there are only lighter duty hitches available like the Curt # C11701 which is a Class I hitch. The higher capacity hitch options only are available on vehicles that have a higher towing capacity. In the US we tend to have lower towing capacities than Europe. Our understanding is that the US is more known for frivolous lawsuits so the vehicle manufacturers are extra cautious.
