Question:

Is there a pre made harness, along with the receptacle? Ill be pulling a hitch non fifth wheel. Oh, and also want the cheapest brake controller for this truck.

You can add a 7-Way connector to your truck but it requires some hard wiring. If your 1997 Chevy K1500 does not already have any trailer connector you would start by installing a 4-Way, # 118315. Then you would need to install 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. If your truck already has a 4-Way then you will not need to install a different one. I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation.

The ETBC7 harness also includes the parts needed to wire up a brake controller. The most inexpensive brake controller is Curt controller # C74VV. This is a time delayed controller that sends back a pre-determined amount of voltage to the brakes. Because of this it can be hard to get it set just right which can increase wear and tear on the brakes of the truck and trailer. The benefit is that it can be mounted any which way you want.

The most inexpensive proportional controller is the Voyager, # 39510. Proportional controllers apply the trailer brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear an tear on the truck and trailer. Proportional controllers have to be mounted a certain way to function properly.
