How Far Away From The Edge Of The Compartment Door Should A Thumb Latch Be Installed
Updated 08/08/2023 | Published 08/07/2023 >
Question:
I want to install these in addition to the lockable latches on my Class A because CA roads on occasion bounce open my doors. Im not looking for these to be the primary closure/lock, just something to keep the door closed for when I hit one of thoseinch potholes. Do they come with a template to show roughly how far from the edge of the door I need to install them? I can make a really accurate guess using dimensions given, but templates are fairly idiot proof. Thanks!

The Deluxe Compartment Door Thumb Latch - 1-1/8" # 37200135 doesn't come with a template, but the latch lever is 1-3/4" in length so you'd want the center of the lock to be roughly 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" from the edge of the door. This will give you 1/4" - 1/2" of lever pressing against the wall to prevent the door from being able to wiggle open on rough roads.
