Does this unit come on and off based on room temperature or do you have to manually turn on and off as needed?

The Advent Air RV Air Conditioner System # ACM135C is a manual operation, so you will have to adjust the fan speed and cool settings yourself which is what will control the unit on and off.
If you are wanting an A/C that will turn on and off based on the room temperature, you would want the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner System # ADV94FR.
