Question:
I have hooked up two different trailers to my 1999 chevy 1500 4x4 and the left turn signal is not working. I tested it back to the yellow wire behind my bumper and it is not working there. what should be my next step or whats the most common part to go out?

If your 1999 Chevrolet Silverado has the factory trailer wiring, then I would suspect a blown fuse. The fuse would be located in the under-hood fuse box close to the fender. The legend on the fuse box lid will read TRL left turn and it is a 10-amp fuse.
If your truck is using an aftermarket trailer wiring harness, then I recommend inspecting the connections for the harness. The harness should have a converter box between the trailer connector and where the harness splices into the vehicles tail light circuits.
If you find the converter (about 2-3 feet up from the trailer connector), test the wires going into the converter box using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. If there is power going into the converter box, but not coming out, then the converter box is bad and will need to be replaced. You can use the Wiring Harness, # C59496, to replace the aftermarket harness on your truck.
