Atwood Water Heater Keeps Overheating on Gas or Electric

Updated 06/17/2022 | Published 06/14/2022

Question:

I have an Atwood GC6AA-10E, the issue started with over heating both when on electric or gas. I have replaced the electronics, the ECO, T-stat and temperature cut-off fuse wire. nothing seems to solve it. Now when it cycles through I can turn gas switch off and it will continue to heat with gas until i take total power of the camper. I have not been able to get the DSI/FLT light to go out no matter what I do. Thanks any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you are having an issue with the control valve. Unfortunately, replacement parts are becoming more and more difficult to find for Atwood water heaters since they are no longer in business.

It is not the ideal situation but your best bet is going to be replacing your water heater. I would recommend upgrading to a tankless unit like the Fogatti RV Tankless Water Heater # LSB64FR (for white) or # LSB44FR (for black). This tankless water heater provides endless hot water on demand inside your RV, it produces up to 90 gallons of hot water flow per hour. It has internal safety components that protect you, your family, and your RV.

You will also need the Camco RV Water Heater Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve # CAM10423 for installation. It is also important to note that installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer, service agency, or gas supplier.
