Question:
I have a 2012 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner WITHOUT a factory installed tow package. I want to install my own hitch with electric braking. Is the wiring still there with the blue going to the rear end?

When it comes to installing a towing package on your 2012 Toyota Tacoma there are a few things you will need. The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2 inch # e98850, has a bolt on installation with no welding required. It has a matte black powder coat finish over a protective base coat that offers superior rust resistance.
Next The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118496 has a 4 flat connector. This harness will make the trailer's stop, turn, and brake lights mirror your vehicle's stop, turn, and brake lights. This connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located on the driver's side and passenger's side, either behind the tail lights or along the frame rail.
From the 4 flat you will have to adapt it to a 7 round plug. The Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7. This will adapt the 4 flat plug into a 7 round and 4 flat plug giving you both options to tow a trailer. There will 4 extra wires that will need to be used to activate your brakes and for you to be able to use a brake controller. The follow wiring functions are below.
Black - 12 Volt Hot Lead
Blue - Electric Brake
White - Ground
Yellow - Reverse Lights
Finally The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90195 will attach to the 4 wires above using the included wiring adapter. This controller has 5 storable settings that let you customize controller for multiple trailers, varying loads or different drivers. This controller has a built-in rotary-style manual override lever. The included wiring adapter will splice into the wiring from the # ETBC7.
