You can use a transmission cooler like an engine oil cooler, however, to make it work properly there are adapters and modifications that will be required.
A better option would be the Derale Engine Oil Cooler # D15501 which will fit your 2009 Chevy Silverado and comes with all necessary installation hardware which will make your installation much easier.
When picking out an engine oil cooler the guideline is to pick a cooler that can accommodate the same engine oil filter thread. Your 2009 Chevy Silverado has a 22mm x 1.5mm thread on its oil filter.
The Derale # D15501 measures 12-3/4 x 7-5/8 x 3/4 inches which is the closest sized oil cooler to the Derale transmission cooler that you referenced. If you happen to have room, you could use the Derale # D15502 which is 16-5/8 inches wide. By using a larger cooler it will give more cooling power.
If you have space to fit 17W x 12-1/2T x 3/4D inches, then I recommend installing the Derale Combination Transmission and Engine Cooler # D15902. This unit also fits your 22mm x 1.5mm thread.
I have attached a FAQ article covering engine oil coolers. I have also attached an installation video of an engine oil cooler on a different vehicle, just to give some reference.
